News Feature September 21, 2017

30th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union in Vienna, Austria on August 20-31, 2018

Updated 3/27/2018: The JWST Cycle 1 GO/AR deadline has been delayed. See the March 27 news article for more information.

Registration is now open for the IAU General Assembly (GA) to be held in Vienna, Austria on August 20-31, 2018. Next year’s IAU GA will include a Focus Meeting (FM) on JWST’s science capabilities and mission status.

The 2018 IAU General Assembly is uniquely timed in the life cycle of JWST. Commissioning and Cycle 1 science plans will have been finalized by August 2018, thus the 2018 IAU GA will provide an important international platform to inform the broader community of what to expect in the coming months for JWST. The JWST FM will highlight the science that will be enabled by JWST early in its life cycle and touch on commissioning and the programs slated for Cycle 1.

A mix of invited and contributed talks will comprise six sessions spanning August 20-22, 2018. Ewine van Dishoeck and John C. Mather will give keynote addresses during the course of the focus meeting. Mark your calendars!
